SAT-7 KIDS:
FIRST ARABIC CHRISTIAN CHANNEL
FOR CHILDREN ON THE AIR

SAT-7 KIDS is now broadcasting in the Middle East and North Africa

December 10, 2007

When SAT-7 first began broadcasting in 1996, the channel consisted of a two hour, once-a-week broadcast, with twenty minutes devoted to children.  In the late 1990’s the children’s programming director, Rita El Mounayer, shared in staff meeting that one day the SAT-7 children’s programmes would have their own channel.  According to Terence Ascott, SAT-7 CEO, “At the time not many people believed that her dream was in any way realistic.  But today the SAT-7 KIDS channel is on the air! And that has a lot to with her persistence and the hard work of all our staff.  Mabrouk!”  (congratulations in Arabic).

Today the SAT-7 KIDS channelis broadcasting from the Hotbird satellite platform and can be watched in every nation in the Middle East, North Africa and also across all of Europe.  This morning Arabic speaking children in the region awoke to watch a new channel designed just for them.

“I had tears in my eyes when the KIDS channel came on the air.  I cried because of God’s blessings.   I was so happy to see the SAT-7 KIDS channel finally on the air.  It’s amazing to see it, and amazing that God uses imperfect vessels like us to bring about things like this,” said Rita El Mounayer, who is now SAT-7’s Programming Director responsible for all SAT-7’s Arabic programming.

SAT-7’s team of children’s producers, writers, editors, actors and technicians have been working for more than a year and a half making new programmes for the channel.  Andrea Mounayer, SAT-7’s Children’s Programming Manager in Lebanon, says she is glad her team is able to fulfill the wishes of so many children, and believes that God will use the channel mightily.  The channel will be broadcasting 24-hours a day, covering 5 time zones, and airing a wide variety of shows including cartoons, music programmes, films, kid’s game shows, drama and much more.

“I truly believe that if you want to change the face of Arab society, you have to start with a child.  And one day I believe that a child who has grown up with SAT-7 KIDS, and had their life influenced by the channel, will become the leader of a nation,” adds Rita.

Over 100 million children under the age of 15 live in the Arab world and over half have access to satellite television channels.*
